From Dorking town centre take South Street (heading south). At car showrooms follow road right then turn left after traffic lights. Almost immediately take right fork (Coldharbour Lane). Continue for about 3 miles to Coldharbour, the plough is on left.

From Ockley heading north on Stane Street (A29), pass Lake Road by village green. Shortly before sharp bend, turn left into Broomhall Road. Continue to Coldharbour, The Plough is on right.

STAGE I 
From pub cross road and, with seat on left, head along "Public Byway". Eventually, on reaching three-pointer post, veer off right down "Public Footpath". Soon pass gate on right and continue until meeting track on right going downhill.

4. One of us, Joe is no star
And taking this won't get him far!
5. Just albinos allowed

STAGE II 
Ignoring downhill track continue ahead, quite soon ignoring another. Proceed to junction of several paths. Here take second one clockwise (virtually straight on). On reaching wooden building turn left uphill. At nearby cross tracks turn sharp right. Follow track until able to veer off right down to rusty gate, where stage ends.

STAGE III 
Through gate, following faint grassy path ahead across field. Shortly pass between holly tree and grassy mound. Stay on faint path, descending gently. When farm buildings come into view continue to stile in corner of field. Here pass stile on left and continue on track to second stile just before farm. Over stile and follow fence on right to third stile. Walk round this, turn right and keep fence on right to road.

STAGE IV
Left along roadway to rutted track on right about 60 yards away. Right up this track into woods. Eventually ignore grassy track on left, then almost immediately turn left uphill at fork. Near top keep right at next fork to road. Cross road and continue ahead to wooden barrier very close by.

STAGE V 
Walk round barrier, onto wide track, proceed to three pointer post at nearby X-tracks. Turn right uphill. Soon keep right at fork. Eventually, at next fork, keep left on main track to a five track junction. Keep virtually straight on, crossing junction to start of third track clockwise.

STAGE VI 
Follow track uphill. Eventually ignore right fork and stay on main track until slanting track joins from right. Straight on, very soon bearing right at fork to "8" marker on tree a few feet away.

19. CS on fire?

Halfway round

STAGE VII
Continue to cross tracks. Left. Stay on track all the way to road.

21. Nobody heads what seems to be
A pretty typical management tree
22. Crowd milling on the steps?

STAGE VIII
Cross over, turn left. Now stay on right-hand side (soon ignoring turning on left) until ending stage at pub sign.

23. Indications that can be seen
Of creatures from HG's Time Machine
