Route & Question Sheet

STARTERS
Answers in front of the pub

 1. This old stuff ain’t no fake
And this is their big break
 2. ... Their what?
 3. Not an uppercut you'd say
But a weally big punch anyway

STAGE I
NOTE: Any clue answers on the main road section will be on the side you are walking on (i.e. the LH side).
On leaving pub, cross the road (please take care!) and turn right, following main road on the LH side. After about 150 yards, recross road at HILLBROW COTTAGE. Follow Public Footpath with brick wall on your right. Continue to PRIVATE sign, where stage ends.

4. The forerunner of FM?
No this is a Christmas item
5. Probably for sale (if you have the fee)
Most of them look plastered to me
6. Trees are in the news
How many, would you deduce?

STAGE II
Go left through gate, then follow well-used path diagonally across field. Through gate, then right. Continue around the lake, then left under railway bridge. Keep ahead for some way, stage ends at T-junction (CHENTON COTTAGE is on your left).

7. In security, a leading part? ...
8. ... But expect no chains here, for a start
9. When this version's done
It's a thousand and one

STAGE III
Turn right and follow lane until road junction by post box. Ignoring the road to left and right, go straight ahead following Public Footpath sign. Follow this to stile, then take path across field (slightly to right). Go through kissing gate, and diagonally across field (if there seem to be two of these paths take the left one), reaching far side about 20 yards to right of cottage. Stage ends here.

10. Guys, here you're favourite to score
If you're a six footer or more
11. Consider "Twist and Shout"
When nothing's been taken out
12. Dizzy bird beware!
Or be entangled there

STAGE IV
Go through gate and straight ahead, (ignoring path round to cottage), continue with trees on left and telegraph wires on right. Eventually go through gate with interesting latch mechanism, then straight ahead (ignoring path on left though the trees). At next junction, go right, then over stile. Follow this path through trees, eventually going through gateway. Continue ahead with field on your right, until you emerge through car park area to junction with lane, where stage ends.

13. Somewhere to get a drink?
T’scourge of bad drivers you'd think
14. Unlikely to help this time
If you try 9999
15. Sounds like the wedding route
Is not an exclusive pursuit

STAGE V
Turn left and follow the lane. Continue for some way, passing under railway bridge and eventually reaching the main road. Stage ends here.

16. Sources of liquid honeycomb? ...
17. ... A rural convalescent home
18. GG-nap? Not nice
But foiled by this device
19. Protecting the home
In London or Rome?

STAGE VI
Cross the main road (take care) and straight ahead up footpath with barbed wire fence on either side. Over stile, then straight ahead with fence on left. Keep ahead on slightly overgrown path and into the trees (look out for rabbits!). Over stile and ahead along dark wooded path. Path climbs steadily to kissing gate. Go through gate and right along lane. Stage ends at footpath on right.

20. You can't get through
Let alone bill and coo
21. Legacy of the hurricane?
At least we can get through again
22. If you can't get the sun
You could try this one

STAGE VII
Go right and follow footpath, which runs parallel with the lane. Eventually, on meeting another path from the right, continue down and emerge at lane again. Bear right and follow the lane back to the main road & the White Hart.

23. A lover of the countryside
How old was she when she died?
24. The mischievous little sprite
It's Damon’s brother all right
25. Don't break in here - that's sacrilege
And also never (ever) go under the bridge
