From Dorking: A24 Deepdene Aveenue south from roundabout with A25. Less than 1 mile, take Chart Lane (minor road) left through Stonebridge. Stay with that road for approx 6 miles, until it ends at T-junction. Turn right and the pub is about 400 yds on your right, opposite the church.

Walk Information

About 3½ miles of reasonably flat walking. A few stiles but otherwise comfortable.

The Six Bells is a typical Surrey pub in the centre of the village.

Starter Clues

In Church Lane (opposite pub) all answers can be seen from the pavement in front of the church.

Stage 1

Continue along Church Lane (pavement on LHS). At Dean House Farm, cross road then, just past George Horley Place, take right footpath over stile. Path follows close to hedge on RHS then to stile (NOT gate) at farthest left corner where stage ends.

Stage 2

Over stile and turn right along track and into field. Ahead passing just to left of electricity pole in field and on to gate. Through and continue down next field with hedge on LHS to bridge. Left over bridge and follow FP across next field. Through gap in hedge opposite. Diagonally left across field and end stage at stile by road

Stage 3

Over stile and turn left along bridleway. Continue through farm then some distance along narrow tarmac road. Stage ends at gate which, if shut would close the road.

Stage 4

Through gate and immediately right along road. Stage ends after Cudworth Manor at Cudworth Lane (sign).

Stage 5

Ahead a few yards then take footpath left over stile by gate. Ahead with farm buildings and fence on left. At stream, over bridge and ahead across field towards "log seat" and "fair conifers". At pond (before reaching far side of field) find stile in hedge on left. Over stile, then another and across "lawn" bearing right, keeping buildings on right. Soon through gate then ahead across small field to stile in hedge (opposite, by road) where stage ends.

Stage 6

DO NOT CROSS STILE, but 120° left across same field soon crossing fence (stile) to another stile at gap in hedge in far corner. Over stile and ahead along tarmac road. When approaching house, keep ahead through gates with fence/hedge on right and buildings on left. Continue along top of field then over stile and directly ahead across next field. At far side left a bit then at gap in fence (double sleepers over ditch next to double trunked oak tree) turn sharp right through trees. Slightly to your right, over wooden "drop pole" gate. Slightly left across middle of field towards two electricity poles. Over nearby stile and left along muddy track. Stage ends at gate into field.

Through gate and diagonally across field to metal gate and broken stile in top right corner. Over stile/gate and turn right along side of field (hedge on right). Ahead through two gates and along stony track to main road (Cudworth Lane) where stage ends.

Stage 8

Over crossroads and along Church Lane. Keep to LHS along pavement then wide grass verge. Where this expires at railings/pond, cross road and continue on RHS to church gate, where walk ends.
