Location:
From London & Sutton: Take A217 south. Beware speed cameras! After Burgh Heath at large roundabout with traffic lights at Kingswood take 4th exit (Tadworth Street). At traffic lights, continue ahead towards Walton-on-the-Hill. Past village pond on right and ahead through village centre. The Chequers is a large pub on left (about 1½ miles from Kingswood roundabout).

From M25: At Junction 8 (Reigate) turn north on A217 (Brighton Road). Beware speed cameras! Continue approx. 2½ miles to large roundabout with traffic lights at Kingswood and take 2nd exit (Tadworth Street). Directions as from London above.

From Dorking: Take A25 east. At Betchworth roundabout turn left past Betchworth Station (Station Road/Pebblehill Road) and over level crossing. Continue up hill until cross over M25 then next left (Chequers Lane). Continue approx. 1 mile and The Chequers is on the right.

Public Transport: The nearest railway station is Tadworth, approx 1 mile away.

The Chequers has a good range of fairly pricey pub food

Route & Question Sheet

STARTERS

STAGE I
Turn right out of the pub and along right side of road.
Soon cross road and head down Queens Close. Head straight on to a kissing
Gate on the left where stage ends.

6. Of the result there can be no doubt
Socialists are in, Environmentalists are out.

STAGE II
Through kissing gate and over nearby stile (or through gate if open), then turn right taking path across field to another stile. Over and follow barbed wire fence along right side of field to another stile.
Straight downhill across field to yet another bloomin’ stile! Over and left along side of field. Follow path to right at end of field, up to a tunnel under the M25, where stage ends.

7. Cartoonist almost made a hundred feel better.
8. It sounds fashionable, but you’ll soon get over it.
9. Learner appears in front of the best.

STAGE III
Through tunnel and follow path through small wood to a gate. Ahead, eventually passing another stile, until reaching a junction of paths where turn left.

11. Leaders of Parties, you leave our nerves shattered.
12. Soils around here result in great fodder.

STAGE IV
Over stile. Follow path ahead over 2 more stiles, then passing house on left. Path bends left after house and comes to; you’ve guessed it, a stile.
Over and turn right, soon reaching a road where stage ends.
13. Elliott’s pal, an unearthly sort,
Can here be seen to keep things taut.
14. This site sounds like a growing concern on the internet!
15. Daily hours of leisure after a man retires.

STAGE V
Ahead, to right of electrical enclosure, taking path parallel with road. When path meets minor road, cross and continue ahead, passing to left of cricket pavilion.
Take second left after pavilion and along path past National Trust sign to junction of paths, where stage ends.

 16. Head of t’ garden all confused and shocked.
 17. The Man Of Steel has cause to mutter
His girlfriend is after some slimy sucker.

STAGE VI
At junction take path to right. Follow path for some distance, eventually forking left at Public Bridleway marker. Right at next junction of paths, following path past farm on left to bridge over motorway, where stage ends.

 20. Beware bird flapping about.
It can hurt you if you don’t look out.
 21. A somewhat prickly Red Dwarf member
Who finds a new role in December.
 22. The number is up for a fizzy drink.

STAGE VII
Cross bridge over motorway and turn left. When reaching footpath, follow to the left of a field. Path bends to the right then crosses a field as indicated by a yellow arrow. Through kissing gate and turn left, along the edge of a football field and past a children’s playground. On reaching minor road, turn right. Walk to junction with Chequers Lane where stage and walk end.
23. A St Andrews wood it certainly is not
But it sounds like the thing for a swinging Scot.

Turn left into Chequers lane to walk 200m back to pub.
