Location:
From Reigate, take A217 south for approx 4 miles then after passing The Black Horse pub on left continue to next roundabout. Take 2nd exit then, after a short distance turn right at road junction. After approx 1½ miles enter Charlwood village. The Greyhound is on right.

Public Transport:
The nearest station is Gatwick and taxi is probably best from there (about 3 miles).

The Greyhound has a small outside area, serves Green King ales and is open all day Sunday.
It has a "Hungry Horse" restaurant franchise - the food is simple, plentiful, reasonably cheap and aimed at families with children - but you cannot book in advance and it is popular, so expect to wait!

Route & Question Sheet

STARTERS
In front of the pub and up the right hand side (as you look at it) until end of brickwork.

STAGE I
From pub, turn right along pavement (RHS) passing the village green and continue to Village Hall, where stage ends.

STAGE II
Cross Norwood Hill Road and continue along Rectory Lane (pavement on RHS). Soon, just after Barber Cottages, take track on right between houses then over stile into field. Along RHS of field then over another stile and continue through second field. Over stile (to left of gate) and follow path to road. Continue along footpath (above road) to Beggarshouse Lane where stage ends.

STAGE III
Turn left along lane. At houses on right, leave road and continue ahead along foot/bridle path. Continue, ignoring field entrances, until stile and footpath to left (a boggy mess and some farm buildings on left indicates that you've gone 100 yards too far!). Cross stile and field, following line of trees, to stile opposite where stage ends.

STAGE IV
NOTE: The answer to question 16 is easily seen from mid April to early May but less obvious or invisible at other times.
Over stile and turn left along concrete road. VERY soon, immediately after cottages, through gate into field on right and follow path around RHS. At far right hand corner, over stile. Follow MAIN path (soon bearing left) winding its way through woods and, after not a long distance, exit to another field over stile. Turn right along side of field and stage ends at stile at corner.
14. For the politically sensitive it is clear
No genetically modified crops to be found here

STAGE V
Over stile, follow path through woods and soon exit to field via stile. Path continues in straight line as you came through woods across field to a point about 2/3 down opposite side where you will find a stile tucked round a corner. Over stile and follow path to a large gate and stile just past house. Through gate and on to minor road. Cross and turn left along pavement. Stage ends at junction with Russ Hill Road.

STAGE VI
NOTE: no answers to be found written on graves or memorials
Cross road and take footpath next to postbox. Continue past church and exit to road by war memorial. Turn sharp right along path (to right of pub). Stage ends at road.

STAGE VII
NOTE: If there is a cricket match in progress, you do not need to disturb anyone to see answers on the pavilion or scoreboard.
Turn left for a few yards then, at Fig Tree Cottage, cross road and through railings onto village green. Round RHS of green until reaching the pavilion. Turn right through gap in hedge then left (between two seats) and follow gravel path until exit to road on left. Turn right along road (pavement on RHS). Walk ends opposite pub.
