Route & Question Sheet

STARTERS
All are visible from garden at side and rear of pub (there are NO clues on road frontage)
 1. A windy fish (but not served anyway!).
 2. Where were they when Louis and Len became sick?
 3. Which football team used to play here?

STAGE I
Leave pub garden by the footpath which rises behind the RH side of the pub. Go straight ahead through three kissing gates. Turn left on to road and follow road around to Green Lane, ignoring left turn. After second corner turn left on to footpath and to stile where stage ends.
 4. Unaspirated it`s still hardy.
 5. How did they build it with no materials?
 6. Would the YMCA be allowed to advertise here?

STAGE II
Cross stile to second stile then ahead with hedge on right, keeping straight ahead until track where bear left and left again down track where stage ends shortly.
 7. This will bring about a change in direction for the British film industry.
 8. Just two for Tolkien - no not the big birds!
 9. As Tolkien might have written: `Four Rings of Virtue, Three of Decay` - well he only got one letter wrong!

STAGE III
Continue along track, at end bear right and go through gap and across tarmac path through gate ahead passing beside houses to the gate at other end, then straight, ending stage at 3-finger SP.
NOTE: Clue 10 was missing on the day of the walk
 10. They stop you from another ascent.
 11. Damn clever these Chinese, the Russians used iron.
 12. Our answer to Bill.

STAGE IV
Keep on straight ahead passing stiles and broken gates, along field edge with fence on left, reaching hedgerow inside which is iron kissing gate which deposits you straight onto road. TAKE GREAT CARE HERE. Turn right keeping to right hand side of road. Stage ends on RH side of road near pond.
 13. It`s a long way down for Peter Pan`s sister.
 14. I don`t know if you ever go to the Opera, but you may know that the Sailor in Ring Cycle was very deformed.
 15. Who or what needs topping?

STAGE V
Keep along RH side of road (WATCH OUT FOR FAST TRAFFIC) until you reach Lovelands Lane on right which turn into and keep on straight to the far end. Over stile and to second stile where stage ends.
 16. One along in a minute - you`ll be lucky!
 17. Since we don`t know we`ll have to guess. What about a bet on it? Does that sound right to you?
 18. Carshalton Athletic. Why? I can hear you say.
 19. I didn`t know George Cohen worked for the military. He must have been good.

STAGE VI
Forward again, shortly meeting your previous route for a short distance so don`t get confused. Over stile, turn left and left again, heading towards big wood. Soon wood is on your right and at end turn right onto tarmac road. Keep on down road until it turns sharp right, when go ahead to bridleway where stage ends.
 20. Junction roundabout.
 21. This posting must have been just like a seaside town when the Germans arrived.
 22. ! It`s in the tree!

STAGE VII
Ahead along bridleway, keeping straight on (mind the nettles) until you reach track, still straight ahead until you reach the road. Cross the road and turn right, and keep on left hand side of road until you reach pub once again. But WATCH OUT FOR FAST TRAFFIC all the way.
 23. Snip tips back but there`s something missing - four altogether!
 24. Oh! dear, it's a tree again - has it been trying to escape?
 25. I know that in the beginning some of you got very intense reading all the clues but it`s nearly over now and you have to be there by 5.30.
