Location:
From the A25 just to the west of Gomshall, turn south to Shere (signposted). Turn through the village centre (Middle Street). After a short distance, turn right just before road passes over railway. Little London and the William IV is a short distance (see map).

Public Transport:
Gomshall station (see map) is on the Guildford-Redhill line.

STARTERS
From the outside of the pub at the front and round the car park entrance, looking inwards.

STAGE I
Leaving pub turn right down road. Stay on right-hand side. Eventually pass under railway bridge. Now cross over road and take "Public Footpath" along concrete driveway to "Ponds Farm". Soon pass "Ponds Cottages", then a pond (below, right) and then another soon after. End stage at downhill driveway off to right.
4. Watchdog for home,
Perhaps from Rome?
5. Deposit-takers like to make out
That this is what they're all about.

STAGE II
Keep ahead on main driveway. After passing "Ponds Farmhouse" continue straight ahead over stile by automatic gate. Soon go over second stile and at X tracks just in front turn left up sandy track. Continue to "Parklands" on left.
7. Arrived at the pole.
8. If James, perhaps, was still alive
As a nonagenarian he would thrive.

STAGE III
Ahead to railway crossing. Ignoring crossing, follow road round to right. Stay on roadway until eventually reaching T junction at "Parklands". Cross over road, turn left and end stage at "Public Footpath" sign a short way up on right.
9. Beverage poured
Since the time of our Lord?
10. Coveted nothing
For the peaceful and loving.
11. Measure for measure?

STAGE IV
Take narrow "Public Footpath". Stay on path over stile and pass gardens of houses until eventually reaching road at right angles. Turn right, then after about 20 yards turn left along driveway marked "Public Bridleway". When fence on left ends, leave driveway and continue along path in front. Soon go downhill and pass beside wall. End stage when wall turns sharp right.
12. One of the three comes off worst
And that is why it suffers thirst.
13. Pigeon post? Not quite.
The species isn't right.

But which make was it that won out in the end?

STAGE V
Fork left up to upper path. Ahead with fence on left to path at right angles with gate opposite. Left along path. Soon bear left at fork, hugging left-hand fence. Stay on path, cross above railway and continue to small wooden gate. Through gate and follow path downhill towards church. End stage at post with "Millennium Trail" disc.
15. No eavesdropping is applied
To ablutions on the Tory side.

STAGE VI
Ignoring small gate in front, turn left along path. After passing through wide gate stay on path to
road. Straight ahead (ignoring right turn) and continue to main road. Cross straight over and go up "Pathfields" to "Pilgrims Close" on right.

STAGE VII
Note:
No answers on red section
Right into "Pilgrims Close". Almost immediately right again along "Public Footpath". Soon step onto roadway and shortly afterwards bear left at fork, continuing downhill. Soon cross block-paved drive of house. turning left at far side along grassy track. Proceed to flight of five steps on right.
Ignoring steps, keep ahead until graveyard appears over to left. Right along track here. Soon walk around five barred gate and descend to kissing gate in front. Left through kissing gate and follow track to second kissing gate. Go through, veer left and then immediately fork right along "Public Footpath" with house over to left. Follow grassy track uphill to bench seat on right marked "For Auntie Mary and Uncle Leo".
20. The sounds of these accents are a dead give-away.
21. Entrance seen
Of diminutive queen.

But used to have class.

STAGE VIII
Stay on track, eventually reaching kissing gate and road. Here cross diagonally left and take track in front. Ahead (ignoring all turn-offs to left) and pass houses on right. End stage at road.
23. All rant and rage
So keep off the stage.
24. Not the types to feature in, say, Times, Mail or Sun,
But sturdy supporters are these, each and every one.
25. From Bermuda? Has it come so far
To stop collision with a car?
