Location:
Headley is just to the south of M25, east of Leatherhead. Take Junction 9 from motorway and follow A243 south (signposted Dorking). At roundabout with A24 (from Epsom & Ashtead) stay with Leatherhead bypass (signposted Dorking). Soon turn left into Headley Road (a narrow road, pretty and lined with trees). After about 1½ miles, turn right at T-junction. The Cock (horse) is about ½ mile on left.

Public Transport:
Leatherhead is well served with trains and busses. Headley is about 2½ miles to the eastand might be more difficult.

STARTERS 
On the north side of the pub, these can be seen from the tarmac area between the road and the church gate.

STAGE I
Through lychgate into churchyard, right for a few yards, then follow path round to the left. Soon leave churchyard via kissing gate and turn left along "Public Footpath", bypassing stile. Stay on path until reaching 3-way "Public Footpath" pointer post. Right here and continue on path to road. Right along road, staying on right-hand side. End stage at "Saddlecombe Stud" on left.
NOTE: On the day of the walk the answer to clue 6 was missing.

Who also plays it after dark!
6. Missing completely from every one.
So 10,000 reduces to 6,561

STAGE II 
Continue on right-hand side of road until reaching "Headley Park Farm". Here cross over and take track towards farm. Pass farm on left and follow track until reaching road at "Cedars Lodge".
7. For country dwellers? It's plain to see
They fluffed the drive from off the tee

STAGE III 
Cross road and take road opposite, keeping to right-hand side. At "Dale View" continue ahead, walking on concrete pavement with barrier immediately to left. Soon rejoin road and stay on right-hand side to road junction ahead. Here cross over beside bollards and take "Public Footpath" between staggered metal barriers. After a few yards keep ahead on narrow path with green mesh fence on left. When fence ends continue to roadway nearby.
9. Not in need of updating? That's perfectly true.
But there will be no chance to view.
10. Lugs, perhaps, for some little way
With backache likely to come into play.
11. Tough justice.

STAGE IV 
Turn left along road. At right bend leave road and take "Public Bridleway" ahead between tall fir trees. On emerging descend across fairway. Stay on track through golf course until reaching main road some way ahead.

13. Musical master driven to drink!

STAGE V 
(No answers on underlined section)
Right along road, staying on right-hand side. Soon after passing horse-rider sign cross over road and take track uphill. Climb on up to X tracks with 4-way pointer post some way ahead.
14. A place for birds to hide
But bounded by road on either side.
15. It can sing
And perform in the ring.
16. Is someone telling "porky pies"?
It surely cannot be that size.

STAGE VI 
Left on track towards "Mill Way". Continue until eventually reaching two "Public Bridleway" pointers near road.
17. Span performed by Dan?

Emerging from the Underground.

Before last act nears?

STAGE VII 
Ahead along "Horse Margin" with road on left. When the margin opens onto the road cross over and take track opposite. Soon climb stile on right and skirt field, keeping hedgerow on left. Over second stile and head in straight line across field to a third. Over this and keep ahead with fence on left to fourth stile. Climb over and, hugging fence on left, descend to fifth stile in corner. Over this, then right to road a few yards away.

It'll lead to her ruin!

For which truncation isn't done.

STAGE VIII 
Left, following road uphill. On reaching "Tumber Lodge Farm" turn right along narrow "Public Footpath". When green mesh fence on left ends, continue uphill for a few yards then turn left and go through nearby kissing gate. End stage on reaching "Public Footpath" sign at road.
