Location:
In the centre of Carshalton, next to traffic lights at the junction of Carshalton Road, Pound Street and Park Hill.

Car Parking:
The pub has a small car park but parking is possibler in nearby side streets.

Public Transport:
Carshalton station is about 1 Km to the north. Carshalton Beeches station a similar distance south (along Park Hill). Busses from Croydon, Sutton and many other places.

With an excellent Sunday lunch carvery (booking strongly advised) and well kept beers, The Windsor Castle is a former Greater London Pub of the Year and a regular Camra Good Beer Guide entry.

The general election was three days before this walk took place - beware of related questions!

Route & Question Sheet

STARTERS 
Outside pub, on pub side of the road.

STAGE I
Cross road at side of pub and head up Beynon Road on right hand side. Follow road as it bends to the left. On reaching a side road called 'The Park', cross and turn right. Soon left into a park through a metal sate. Ahead in park staying parallel with wooden fence on left. Stage ends on reaching a concrete footpath.

STAGE II
Turn left onto footpath and follow path around large hole, passing to the left of a childrens play area. On reaching a brick culvert turn left off path and around top of culvert. Descend stairs at far side of culvert and walk around the front of the brick arches. Head along left hand bank of a large channel, until reaching metal gateway to road. Cross between traffic islands, and ahead still on left of trench. Straight ahead down Carshalton Place, crossing to side of trench when path begins until reaching a main road.

NO CLUES ALONG THIS STRETCH
Turn right along main road and cross road at pedestrian lights. Turn right and immediately cross, and tuft left down, Westcroft Road. Very soon turn right down residential road to another main road. Cross at traffic island or use traffic lights 100 metres to right and walk back down.

STAGE III
On crossing main road, turn left. On meeting side road turn right and immediate left and down left hand side of 'Lakeside' road. Cross side road and ahead down concrete footpath. Over small bridge and to car park. Cross to top right hand corner of car park and turn left onto path just before lake. Follow lakeside path and turn left at small triangular junction of paths. Turn right at pergola, go around pond and right through 4 ornamental trees. Ahead across footbridge with black iron railings.
On crossing bridge, head straight across grassland towards single storey brick building in distance. On crossing a concrete path, continue ahead towards building (keep going, its a cafe!) Between 2 very large trees. Cross another path and continue on final furlong to building. Stage ends on reaching left hand edge of hedge just before cafe.

STAGE IV
Pass between cafe and play area (pausing for refreshment? Loos around side of cafe) and turn right along concrete path to junction of paths. At junction follow path to left. Cross brick bridge and pass church on left. On reaching a path to the right just past end of church, turn right and follow path, ignoring fork to left, until arriving at a stone footbridge.

STAGE V
Cross stone footbridge and turn left. Follow path along side of stream and turn left across blue and white footbridge. Turn right along side of lake and follow path to car park. Turn right and out of car park gate to main road. Cross main road and turn left. Follow road until facing Rose & Crown pub across a side road, where stage ends.

NO CLUES ALONG THIS STRETCH
Cross side road and retrace steps up Westcroft Road, just to the left of Rose & Crown, until reaching black bollards and railings.

STAGE VI
On passing bollards, cross road and turn right, then soon left through gate into park. Follow path until it bends left, when head across grass to right end of a childrens play area (aim for blue swings). Join path which heads downhill and curves to left. Walk along with river on right hand side until just before a T junction of paths, where stage ends.

STAGE VII
At T junction turn right and across footbridge to gate. Through gate and across road. Turn left and very soon right into side road with pond on left. At end of side road, ahead along path with stream on left. At end of path, cross road and turn left to where stage ends.

To return to pub, walk to mini roundabout. Turn right and follow Road for 300 metres hack to Windsor Castle pub.
