From Guildford: Take A281 south to Shalford. Turn left just after Shalford station. After ½ mile turn left into New Road towards Chilworth. After 1 mile, turn right at Chilworth & Albury station (Sampleoak Lane). At Junction with Blackheath Lane, turn left to The Villagers.

From Dorking: Take A25 through Westcott and Gomshall. Continue Shere turning on left then turn left at dual carriageway onto A248 (Sherbourne) towards Albury. After 2 miles turn left at Chilworth & Albury station (Sampleoak Lane). At Junction with Blackheath Lane, turn left to The Villagers.

Public Transport: Chilworth & Albury station (Guildford - Dorking line) is less than a mile away but check timetable.

STAGE I 
Leaving pub turn right. Stay on right-hand side to X roads. Straight over, still keeping on right-hand side through village to large "Blackheath" road sign. Cross over to "Public Bridleway" pointer opposite.

STAGE II 
Left into "Public Bridleway". Very soon veer right up narrow path into woods. Eventually, just after ignoring downhill path from left, bear right at T, continuing downhill. End stage at buildings on right with low, tiled roofs.

STAGE III 
Take path on left. Eventually, when small gate bars the way, go through and continue through second and third gates in front. Immediately after third gate climb stile, cross bottom of garden, then walk round gate and follow path ahead. End stage at telegraph pole on left marked "15 1217" near red-brick house on right.

STAGE IV

Ahead on narrow roadway to T. Left here to main road. Cross over, left along grass verge, follow road over stream. Almost immediately cross back over to "Derryswood" and take tarmac roadway, passing between open gates. After passing waterfall continue for a short way to "Public Footpath" on right next to kiss-gate.

STAGE V 
Through kiss-gate, following grassy path across field to stile. Over stile and keep ahead to a second stile.* (see Note below.) Over this, along narrow path and soon climb third stile. Now continue on grassy path ahead. Eventually climb fourth stile beside gate and reach road a few yards ahead.
*Note: If path beyond second stile is blocked with ivy/nettles, climb over gate on left just before stile, walk parallel to path (with fence on right) and soon climb over gate beside third stile. Now resume directions above, starting from "Now continue..."

STAGE VI

Cross over, turn left and follow road uphill, staying on right-hand side throughout. Eventually, just past "Public Bridleway" sign on right, end stage at wooden height bar at car park.

STAGE VII 
Right into car park, hugging wooden rail on left side. Very soon go left through gap formed by two thin trees. Follow path, keeping ahead at minor X tracks to wide track nearby at right angles. Left, then after about 20 yards turn right along narrow path through heather. Stay on path, passing through lightly-wooded area to cricket pitch. Pass beside nets on left, then immediately skirt left round back of the pavilion. Follow track to path at right angles beside hedge. Right. Immediately cricket pitch ends go left along track to road ahead.

STAGE VIII 
Ahead into "Private Road". At blue-topped posts turn left on path into woods. Follow line of blue-topped posts, keeping ahead when path merges from the right. Soon turn left at X tracks. After about 40 yards veer off left on narrow path leading up to war memorial. Here pass seat on right and continue over X paths just in front. CAREFUL!! After only about 15 yards take narrow path on right. Stay on path, soon passing through light woods to rear of car park. Ahead to pub sign at front.
