March 2007

Hello Everyone

We have a great programme of quizwalks for you in 2007. As this is also the year we celebrate our fiftieth season we have a lot to fit in, so we will be starting the programme earlier than usual with a walk on Sunday 1st April organised by Roger and Joyce Heath.

Their walk, from the Jolly Farmers at Buckland in Surrey, will double up as both the annual handicap event for the John Cooper Treasure Chest and also as a league walk counting towards the 2007 championship trophy. So you have two chances to win!

Then we have another eight league walks (click on Diary and Walks for details), the last one being on Sunday 2nd September.

But it doesn't end there! Since June last year I have been chairing a planning group responsible for organising our fiftieth anniversary celebrations. These will take place on the weekend of 29th and 30th September and are not to be missed! Here's what we have planned.

Saturday 29th September - exactly fifty years on we'll be assembling between 9.45am to 10.00am at Reigate Station to do that first walk all over again - and I can promise you it's a classic Surrey walk talking in some of Surrey's best scenery in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Sunday 30th September - we'll be back in Reigate for our traditional end of season lunch. The venue is the Reigate Manor Hotel and we will be in the excellent private function rooms there called Friths Restaurant and Bar. We are expecting a bumper turnout, so do book your place with Roger Heath now. Roger has negotiated a reduced rate if you want to stay there overnight.

Keep your eyes on the website as the season progresses. We intend to put up a lot of new material - for example, some fascinating background information on what happened on that very first walk; roll call of winners down the years; photo gallery with pictures of quizwalkers past and present; route map for the re-walk itself with click-on buttons allowing you to see images of the scenery and things of interest you will encounter when you do it for real on the 29th September.

Lastly, don't forget to tell people in your circle about our quizwalks and bring them along. In this historic year we want to see as many new faces as possible out there with us in the countryside. And remember, children are always welcome and we have special question sets just for them.

Good quizwalking!
