League Trophy

In that first full year of treasure hunts (1958) there was no trophy awarded at the end of the season for the best overall performer. However, as we can see from the minutes of an EYPC committee meeting held on 8th May 1959, things were about to change:

Treasure Hunt Rules - Time. It was decided to allow an overall time of 8 hours for the completion of Treasure Hunts. One point will be deducted for every 5 minutes taken in excess of this period.

It was decided to withdraw the £5 prize for winners of the league and substitute a trophy, this to be held for one year together with a replica. This replica together with another for runner may be held permanently.

At the end of the 1959 season the late Les Bradbury, who was chairman of our club between 1974 and 1986, became the first winner of the treasure hunters' league trophy.

Andi Cap Treasure Chest

The trophy is a treasure chest awarded once a year, usually at the first walk, based upon individual handicap calculated from the results of the previous season. Miraculously the treasure chest has survived the last 48 years and of course has its own tales to tell, see Notes from the Archives for the full story.
